"Coles Shopmate combines the convenience and range of your local Coles supermarket with a host of powerful take-anywhere features unique to the iPhone.

Using the app, Coles Customers can plan their shop with multiple shopping lists, discover delicious new recipes, stay informed with the latest weekly specials at their local Coles, scan product bar codes, recipe QR codes and much more."

Project Brief

"Coles Shopmate is an invaluable shopping companion for Coles customers, providing a wide selection of frequently updated recipes as well as comprehensive shopping list functionality designed to make shopping at Coles a breeze.

The shopping list allows customers to automatically add items in a number of innovative ways - from searching and adding items manually to automatically adding ingredients from in-app recipes, to scanning product barcodes using the inbuilt scanner or browsing the ""virtual home"" to find products.

Customers can also create as many shopping lists as they like for any occasion—the weekly shop, the party shop, holiday shop, etc. The items added to users' shopping list go beyond a generic entry , as the app database includes over 70,000 branded items sold at Coles, allowing users to choose and add the specific brand or pack size of a product to their list."

Project Innovation / Need

"Coles Shopmate innovates in a number of ways:

- In-app scanning feature allows consumers to easily add any item in their kitchen to their shopping list instantly. The scanner also scans QR codes from supermarket recipe displays / magazine ads to add ingredients automatically to the shopping list.
- Weekly specials presented in the app are tailored to the specific Coles store customers have nominated as their local Coles."

User Experience

"A number of features in Coles Shopmate provide a unique user experience:

The ""virtual house"" concept allows users to browse through rooms with items and specials appearing in-context to be added to the shopping list (accessible via Browse Products in the main menu)

The shopping list also features a ""virtual trolley"" which loads itself up with items as they are crossed off the list.

Adding all recipe ingredients to the shopping list automatically or by scanning a QR code within the app makes compiling shopping lists faster for customers."

Project Marketing

Coles ShopMate has been featured on Coles websitem but the marketing predominantlt reles on the strength of the Coles brand and it's exposure on the AppStore. The app has enjoyed over 300,000 downloads so far and counting.
