Project Overview
Design for application is a defining quality of products, this project investigates the various possibilities of a textile design to effect the aesthetics of objects and the impact a print can have on dictating the placement, location and occasion of an item.

Project Brief
This project features a series of prints created through experimentation with artistic mediums including pens and paints then filtered through digital rendering to form completed print designs. Sample prints known as “Strike off” prints will be applied to various fabrics and used as a reference as well as the possibilities explored into the application of the print onto apparel, linen, home wares and various furnishing accessories.
Project Innovation/Need
A series of experimentation with medium to create designs that could lend themselves to non specific application, allowing for opportunity to inspire the viewer. A strong visual image that provides a fast impression in order to form an association with a place or setting and therefor resonate as an identifiable feature. With the aid of digital application examples the design will have the ability to provide suggestion for application methods as well as a visual reference for clear understanding.
Design Challenge
Selecting an applicable theme that is easily recognized and creating a new design that invoked intrigue and strong visual interpretation that could lend itself to various application needs.
Sustainability
This project involves co-operation with local business and experts in order to produce sample products, all decisions will be considered by the materials available, alternatives and cost effectiveness.
Product Design - Textile + Surface
This award celebrates creative and innovative design in printed, knitted, woven, surface pattern and illustration for cloth, fabric or structural material and surface design applications. Consideration given to the technical aspects of production, visual aesthetics, and relationship to end product and use.
