Media Release - Thursday 23 October 2014
Winners of the prestigious 2014 Melbourne Design Awards have been announced by design100 Founder & CEO, Mark Bergin at the University of Melbourne, Faculty of Architecture’s new state-of-the-art Melbourne School of Design facility.
The coveted Best of awards were announced with the accolades as follows: Design Champion – NAB for the 2nd year running, Best Start-up – Yousili, Best Studio less than 5 – Immediacy, Best Studio 5 – 20 Principals and Best Studio 20+ architecture firm McBride Charles Ryan leading the way with two gold and one silver award winning projects.
“The depth in the 2014 awards has been remarkable, across 34 categories we’ve awarded 100 winners” said Mr Bergin. With a focus on the design economy, Mr Bergin remarked “a primary goal of the awards is to also provide recognition to the commissioners, who recognise that design is the premise of accelerating business and have the courage to honour their convictions by commissioning new design projects. We’re proud to acknowledge their important role in the design equation.”

The Melbourne Design Awards close midnight Tuesday 7 October. Time to get into action.
We know some people have cottoned on to the nomination packs. They offer a way to get the standard price nomination during the late period. Nomination packs cover 6 nominations and cost $1500, a saving of 48%.
The awards are great opportunity to promote your projects and your organisation as a leader in design.
Great design is the intersection between innovative materials, courageous client needs and brilliant design execution. So we have introduced the Best Supplier category into this year's awards to give suppliers the opportunity to participate via project showcase nominations.
Design commissioners with a wide body of work will be in the running for the coveted Design Champion Award recently taken out in the Sydney Design Awards by Sekisui House and last year in Melbourne by NAB.
Winners will be announced prior to the trophy presentation so if you're involved with a winning project you can further enhance your awards experience by getting together with the project team and celebrating your award.
Less than 48 hours remain for the Melbourne Design Awards Standard Nomination Deadline
before rolling over to the Late Nomination Deadline
Make sure you're represented in our next round of Shortlisting and in the running for our Silver & Gold award announcements.
A timely reminder to designers and commissioners to ensure you've nominated all your relevant projects to be in contention for the Best Studio and Design Commissioner awards.
In recognising that great design projects are based on innovative products and services we have also introduced the Best Supplier
category into this year's awards. So if you know a great supplier who deserves recognition, it's time to spread the news and encourage them to get involved.
If your nomination won’t quite get over the line by the deadline, you can make payment to lock in the standard pricing and complete your nomination when it’s ready, but remember the clock is ticking.
The 2014 Melbourne Design Awards is officially open for nominations with the early bird deadline closing 11 September
. Congratulations to the early bird nominations - take a look at the current shortlist
We've made a few changes to this year's program. Probably the biggest news is that we've changed our announcement model. This year we won't be making finalists announcements but rather Gold and Silver award winners. Winners will be announced prior to the Trophy Presentation on 23 October with awarded projects receiving a complimentary ticket to participate in the official celebrations and be presented with their trophy.

WHAT PAST WINNERS ARE SAYING
REA Group: When we entered the awards, our realestate.com.au mobile apps had been downloaded over 1.2 million times (now over 2 million!) and our latest updates had received great feedback from consumers. The awards were an opportunity for our apps to be recognised by the people who use them as well as the broader mobile industry. As you can imagine, we were pretty chuffed to win a Mobie and kudos goes to our project team who created the winning iPhone and iPad universal app.
John Douglas, JDA Architects."JDA Architects were delighted to recieve a Melbourne Design Award for our Imaging at Olympic Park fitout. In particular we valued the recognition through a broader design community than from just within our own profession. The fact that the Melbourne Design Awards covered such a variety of design disciplines helped make the programme a worthwhile statement about the state of design in Melbourne, and to be an award winner in such company is very rewarding. Further our clients are thrilled to bits and now proudly display their copy of the award at their centre."
