Project Overview

The PlannngVIC: Planning Property Report app provides easy access to planning scheme information for any property in Victoria.

The app complements the online Planning Property Report service and includes property details like zoning and overlay controls and any state heritage information that applies to the land.

Project Brief

This app makes use of several of the Victorian Government's Planning services and mashes them up with Google mapping services. The in-situ nature of getting the reports means Real Estate Agents, Developers, Property Buyers, Planners and many other community groups have access to the information wherever they are. This is particularly useful when standing in front of a property and trying to determine zoning and overlays for a property.
The user can save the report for later viewing or email it to someone.

Project Innovation / Need

Often, then need for knowledge of Zoning restrictions and Overlays for properties is ad hoc in nature and particularly relevant out in the field. To that end it was important to make this information easily available on a mobile device.

User Experience

The simple interface utilises a very familiar Google Maps interface to enable the user to quickly understand how to interact. This combined with a more typical form based text search means that the user can interact with the information in a far more tactile and relevant manner.
The app is best used when standing in a street and wanting to know what the restrictions and zonings are for a given house. This way the user can look at the house and it's neighbourhood and make informed decisions about their overlays.

Project Marketing

The marketing is largely managed by the DPCD on both their website and newsletter channels to reach the frequent users of this type of service. This has proven to be quite an effective way of reaching the audience as in a lot of cases they already have a connection with the DPCD and it's related communities.
